Steel grit abrasive media is a high performance cleaning and descaling abrasive media. Used prominently by in blastrooms or in the field with complex grit recycling units.
Cast steel grit has a sharp edge that will gradually round over as the abrasive is recycled. if you specification calls for a consistent profile, you should select a hard grade of steel grit, as this will maintain its sharp working edges. It is important to have a good working mix when working with steel grit, as the grit continues to round off, and adding new particles to the mix on a consistent basis will ensure that your profile will remain constant.
Selecting the hardness of the steel grit is very important as just stated. However the softer the grit the longer it lasts… as a soft steel grit will quickly “Round” and loose its blasting effectiveness.
In theory, the following table can be used as a guide for how long the grit will last.
|Grit Hardness||Rockwell Hardness||Grit Recycles @ 110psi|
*for most Blastroom applications we recommend GH Hardness grit, as it will maintain your profile required.
Most Common uses of Steel Grit include:
- Pipe/Rebar Coating
- Railcar – New & Repair
- Bridges/Water Towers
- Storage Tanks – Oil and Gas
- Marine – Ship Building and Repair
Other Less Common Uses of Steel Grit include:
- Foundry – casting cleaning
- Structural Steel
Not applicable for:
- Shot Peening
- Aluminum or Stainless
