Where does all the moisture come from?

On any given day, the air all around us contains water vapor - usually expressed as Relative Humidity (RH%). The higher the RH, the more water vapor held by the air in the atmosphere around the blasting location. When the air compressor unit draws in air to achieve 100psi, it has to suck in 7 cu ft of air to make 1 cu ft of compressed air. That results in 7x more mosture in the compressed air entering the blasting system.

As compressors generate heat by compression the air is hot and the moisture will stay suspended as vapor. As the air cools down, be that within the hoses or in the blast machines, it condensates into real water. That’s what can really cause you a problem, especially if it stops your abrasive flowing easily. Wet air is also heavier air and that uses around 15% more energy to carrying the moisture through the blasting system.
