Are the atmospheric conditions right for painting?

Checking dew point is critical to the success of most painting systems

The surface should be completely free of moisture prior to and during paint application and curing.

What is dew?

Condensation of water (dew) from the atmosphere will occur on the surface given the right conditions. For any given set of conditions, the temperature at which condensation will occur is called 'dew point'.

Ascertaining and recording dew point is a fundamental requirement.

How can you measure dew point?

A dew point meter is a great way to measure air temperature, surface temperature and relative humidity to give you a dew point reading.

As long as the surface is 5°F (3°C) or more above dew point it's considered safe to paint, as far as risk of condensation is concerned.
