Testing for Dust Before Painting

DUST CAN AFFECT THE LIFE OF YOUR COATING

Did you know the leading factor in coating failure is dust retention on a substrate? To avoid this issue, make sure to carefully examine the surfaces and crevices before painting.

REMOVING DUST

If you do find dust lingering before you paint, you will want to make sure you clean before getting started. The best way to remove dust is to blast the area with compressed air using a blast nozzle.

If you do not have a blast nozzle, you could use a vacuum nozzle instead.

HOW TO TEST FOR DUST

In order to test for dust in the area you will be painting, you will need to use a dust tape test kit where you will use the pressure sensitive tape method. To complete this method, you will get a sample of how much dust is on the surface by placing a piece of tape on the blasted surface. The test comes with a guide that you will use in the process of determining how much dust is on the blasted surface.

This test is very user friendly.
