Worksite Ventilation Requirements are Important to Know

Dust Collectors help to protect workers at the site from inhaling dust and comply with work site regulations and codes.

OPERATOR SAFETY

The amount of dust produced while blasting is an extreme amount and a blast helmet can protect the operator only to a certain extent. To keep them safe, there must be additional air flowing through the blasting environment.

VENTILATION RECOMMENDED

For air movement horizontally, where the dust is hazardous (for example a lead removal project), it is required that the air moves at 100 ft/minute.
For horizontal air movement where the dust has no hazards, 80 ft/minute is the required air movement.

How to find the size of dust collector for your site:
Take the size of your containment that is being blasted in (ex. 10 ft x 10 ft room) and multiply it by the airflow that you need (non-hazardous – 80 ft/minute) and the answer will be the cfm of the dust collector that you need. 10 ft x 10 ft x 80 ft = 8000 cfm dust collector.
Hazardous dust – 100 ft/minute: 10 ft x 10 ft x 100 ft = 10,000 cfm dust collector.
