Both during and immediately after abrasive blasting, atmospheric humidity levels are critical. This is due to the blasted substrate becoming vulnerable to flash rusting. Introducing dehumidified air into an enclosed work area will help combat flash rusting. “Holding the blast” on uncoated, blasted steel is possible using de-humidification systems. For this to be successful, the humidity needs to be below 50% RH. This typically will have a huge impact on a production cycle. Imagine being able to blast non-stop for a week before having to stop, clean up and paint!
