Preventive Maintenance Schedule for Blast Equipment
Abrasive blasting equipment operates in harsh environments. Regular preventive maintenance prevents costly downtime, extends equipment life, and keeps your crew safe. Even small parts like O-rings or gaskets can halt operations if neglected. Follow this PM schedule to ensure performance and safety.
Why Preventive Maintenance Matters
- Prevents unplanned work stoppages
- Extends equipment life
- Maintains consistent blasting performance
- Reduces safety risks
- Ensures compliance with jobsite standards

- Verify air pressure output.
- Inspect for air leaks.
Air Lines & Hoses
- Walk and inspect lines for leaks.
- Ensure safety clips and whipchecks are in place.
Blast Pot
- Check abrasive level and pop-up valve.
- Listen for continuous leaks or pressure issues.
Remote Control (Deadman)
- Test handle engagement/disengagement.
- Inspect lines for cracks or kinks.
Nozzle & Holder
- Inspect for cracks or excessive wear.
- Ensure gasket is in place and holder tight.
Blast Hose
- Check for soft spots, cuts, or bulges.
- Tighten couplings and verify safety pins.
Breathing Air System
- Drain filter jars daily.
- Test CO monitor and air flow.
Blast Helmet & PPE
- Inspect cape, seals, and lenses.
- Check gloves and aprons.
Dust Collector / Vacuum
- Empty dust drums and verify pulse-cleaning system.
During Operations – Ongoing Monitoring
- Watch pressure gauges for drops.
- Drain moisture traps regularly.
- Monitor abrasive flow and leaks.
Post-Shift Maintenance
- Depressurize and flush pot.
- Clean debris and drain traps.
- Inspect wear parts and coil hoses.
- Secure deadman handles.
Weekly Maintenance
- Inspect pop-up valve and internal screens.
- Check metering valve seals and sleeve.
- Inspect remote control valves and diaphragms.
- Flip hoses end-for-end to balance wear.
- Service compressor and dryers.
- Clean dust collector filters.
Monthly / Periodic Maintenance
- Rebuild metering valves and control tubes.
- Inspect pot linings and grease bearings.
- Check cables and calibrate gauges.
- Restock spare parts.
