DeFelsko PosiTector® 6000 Series Coating Thickness Gage Probe Family
Sku: P-IND6000PROBE
The PosiTector 6000 probe family includes an extensive selection of interchangeable individual inspection sensors. They are paired with a PosiTector 6000 Gauge Body for use in evaluating coating thickness on metal surfaces. Each probe retains its own calibration.
The industry-leading range of probes give inspectors flexibility to handle different substrates, coating thickness ranges, and jobsite conditions. Below is a breakdown of available PosiTector 6000 probe options with their measurement ranges and MPNs. Also, see the attached selection chart for available options to choose based on substrate type, range, geometry, and environment.

High-Range and Thick Coating Probes
Designed for heavy coatings such as epoxy, rubber lining, and intumescent materials.
- FTS (Cabled Thick Coating): 0–250 mils – MPN PRBFTS
- FTRS (90° High-Range): for angled access – MPN PRBFTRS
- FNTS (Combination High-Range): 0–250 mils – MPN PRBFNTS
- FKS / NKS: up to 500 mils (0–13 mm) – MPN PRBFKS, PRBNKS

Duplex and Special Function Probes
For duplex coatings such as zinc and paint combinations.
- FNDS (Duplex Mode): measures paint and zinc individually or total system thickness – MPN PRBFNDS
How to Choose the Right Probe
- Substrate Type: Use F probes for steel, N probes for aluminum or non-ferrous metals. FN probes are also available that can be used on both types of substrates.
- Measurement Range: Match the coating system thickness, from thin paint to thick linings.
- Geometry: Select micro or angled probes for tight access and edges.
- Environment: Choose Xtreme or cabled probes for high heat, humidity, or abrasive conditions.
- Coating System Type: Use FNDS for duplex coatings to measure paint and galvanizing thicknesses separately.
Each PosiTector 6000 probe is factory-calibrated, traceable to NIST or PTB, and includes a Certificate of Calibration. All probes carry a two-year manufacturer’s warranty for reliable field and shop performance.
